Beware the owl! Salma Hayek appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday (June 15) to discuss her new film, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, but instead ended up spending much of the time talking about her beloved rescue owl, Kering, and her feathery friend’s unexpected offering for Harry Styles.
The actress shared how much she enjoys having an owl in the house, save for the hairballs they sometimes regurgitate after meals. “The worst is when they, like, there’s this ball of hair that comes out of their mouth,” she began. “And one time, there was a very important celebrity — I will not say his name — and he was really excited about the owl and was hoping the owl would go on his head because it was on me.”
“He’s like, ‘Oh, I need an owl in my life. How do you do that?'” Hayek recalled. “The moment he least expected it, it came on his head. But then he did the thing, and this came out — this ball of rat hair was on his head. He was OK! It happens sometimes when you have guests in this house.”
Though the actress initially declined to name the star who received this unpleasant gift from Kering, she eventually revealed that it was none other than Styles. “I hope I’m not in trouble!” she exclaimed after making the reveal. “He was super cool, by the way. He was super cool even with that happening. … He’s the best.”
Besides throwing up on world famous celebrities, Kering enjoys sleeping with Hayek whenever her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, is out of town. But there is a downside to having the nocturnal bird in her bedroom. “The worst is when your feet come out of the sheets and she thinks that your toes are mice, and she just flies in and grabs them,” admitted Hayek. “That can be pretty terrifying. I tried to put socks on for at least some protection.”
Hayek has been busy promoting The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard as of late, but not only via interviews. The star recently showed off her fantastic dancing on Instagram, busting out the moves to Britney Spears’ hit “… Baby One More Time” to launch the #hitmanschallenge. The song, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999, is also featured in the trailer for the movie, which opens June 16 in theaters.
