Sabrina Carpenter Warns Her NSFW Album “Man’s Best Friend” Isn’t for the Faint of Heart

Those unsettled by the provocative tones of Short n’ Sweet tracks like “Juno” or “Bed Chem” are unlikely to embrace Man’s Best Friend, in Carpenter’s view.

In a teaser unveiled on Thursday, August 28, before her CBS Mornings segment on August 29, Carpenter emphasized that her forthcoming album demands a bold ear—one best appreciated in the privacy of one’s own space.

“This record isn’t for anyone with thin skin,” Carpenter told Gayle King about the LP’s release on August 29. “Still, even the most reserved listener can retreat in solitude, press play and discover moments that elicit a knowing grin or soft chuckle.”

When King observed that the album balances “sexuality” with “power” and “vulnerability,” the two-time Grammy nominee explained, “Sometimes, you hear the daring lyrics and think, ‘I couldn’t belt this out in front of others.’”

“It might feel almost too candid,” she added. “But picture a crowd of young women at my concert, belting these words alongside their best friends—they exhale relief together, knowing it’s meant to be an exhilarating moment.”

This isn’t Carpenter’s first response to the controversy around her sensual songwriting, which stirred debate following her breakthrough with 2024’s Short n’ Sweet. In a Rolling Stone cover story in June, she noted the irony: “It’s amusing when critics complain, ‘All she sings about is this.’”

“Yet those are the pieces you’ve elevated,” she continued. “Clearly, there’s an appetite for it—sex permeates my show. Sure, posts highlight the risqué moments, but that’s beyond my control.”

Man’s Best Friend also drew scrutiny even before release for its original cover art depicting Carpenter on all fours, held by a man’s grasp. Critics deemed it demeaning, but Carpenter has since issued alternative covers to appease more conservative tastes.
