Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Man’s Best Friend, doesn’t mean she believes men are simple to understand. In a cover feature for Vogue Italia published on Tuesday, Sept. 23, the singer described her relationship with men as a mix of affection and bewilderment.

Carpenter told the magazine that her experiences range widely: some men inspire and cherish her, while others leave her feeling puzzled or even belittled. She described that contrast as part of the complicated ways people show up in one another’s lives.

Fans hearing the record won’t be surprised by that ambivalence. Man’s Best Friend, which arrived in August and opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, pairs sharp, often sardonic lyrics with moments of genuine tenderness. On the chart-topping lead single “Manchild,” Carpenter skewers the immature partners she keeps encountering, while songs such as “Tears” celebrate the small, surprising sparks that keep relationships interesting.

Speaking with Zane Lowe earlier this month, Carpenter reflected on the heartache that helped shape the album. She said that, rather than emerging embittered, she found herself recognizing that breakups are complicated and often involve growth for both people — a perspective that shaped the record’s tone.

The Vogue Italia conversation also highlighted how meaningful Carpenter finds her fanbase. She credited longtime listeners for supporting her through the highs and lows of the last decade, calling the relationship with her audience a shared journey of growth.

Beyond the album, Carpenter has a busy slate ahead: she’s set to make her Grand Ole Opry debut, will host Saturday Night Live for the first time, and is scheduled to headline Coachella in 2026.
