Sabrina Carpenter Joins Cast of Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire Biopic

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, Tom Holland is preparing to star in his next film, a biopic about Fred Astaire. Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley will co-star in that movie alongside him.

Fred Astaire is a prolific dancer and stage and movie star known from classic musicals like Top Hat, Swing Time, and The Band Wagon. Tom Holland has a dancing and theater background and spent some time trying to get this biopic off the ground. In the wake of two major hits, Tom Holland is finally making the movie with Paul King, a director best known for Wonka and the recent trilogy of Paddington films.

On Sept. 25, Deadline reported that Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley joined the cast. Sabrina Carpenter will play actress Ginger Rogers, while Margaret Qualley will portray Fred Astaire’s sister Adele Astaire. Speaking to Deadline about the casting, Paul King said, “The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the twentieth century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side.”

Sabrina Carpenter is currently known as one of the world’s biggest pop stars, but she also has an acting background in Girl Meets World, Milo Murphy’s Law, and Tall Girl. Margaret Qualley is known for movies like The Substance and video games like Death Stranding.

While the Fred Astaire biopic may not reach the same box office heights as The Odyssey or Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Michael showed that audiences want this kind of musical biopic. Tom Holland gets to make a movie he wants to star in alongside talented actresses after delivering one of the most successful superhero movies ever made.
