S-Curve Records Inks Worldwide Pact With Disney Music Group

Three months after S-Curve Records founder/CEO Steve Greenberg departed BMG, he is relaunching his label in a worldwide partnership with Disney Music Group.

S-Curve and Disney already have a shared history. Since 2015, DMG’s Hollywood Records has partnered with S-Curve Records to work Andy Grammer, We the Kings and AJR to pop radio formats. (It has worked in tandem with S-Curve’s promo staff since 2018.) The partnership has yielded nine platinum singles since starting with Grammer’s multi-platinum hit, “Honey, I’m Good.”

Under the new joint venture, S-Curve will continue to lead on A&R and marketing for its acts, while also relying on Disney for promotion, synchronization and distribution.

Fittingly, the first artist signed to S-Curve is Grammer. On June 28, Grammer will release “Lease On Life,” his first single for the new entity Grammer and long-time manager Ben Singer’s Giant Soul Records.

“We’ve had so many wins through the years with Steve Greenberg and [DMG president] Ken Bunt that we knew this was the best home for the forthcoming body of work,” Singer said in a statement. “Lease On Life” is being used this summer for a global International Hotel Group ad campaign.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to launch this new chapter of the S-Curve story in partnership with the Disney Music Group, Greenberg said. “Our new, deeper partnership with DMG is going to lead to very exciting things. Nothing could be more perfect than starting things off with new music from Andy Grammer, who has had more hits for S-Curve than any artist in the label’s 21-year history. Andy’s a truly inspiring artist and I’m certain the best is yet to come for him.”

Added Bunt, “Steve’s musical acumen and attention to detail are truly remarkable, and we are thrilled to be partnering with him and his S-Curve label, as well as officially welcoming Andy Grammer to the DMG family. We have been working with Andy for many years now, supporting his incredible music at radio, and we are honored to be able to extend that relationship across the rest of the company.”

Greenberg launched the New York-based label in 2000 with the Baha Men’s “Who Let The Dogs Out” and scored subsequent hits with Joss Stone, Grammer and Fountains of Wayne. Most  recently AJR’s “Bang”  reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February.

In 2015, BMG bought S-Curve for a reported $10 million with Greenberg joining BMG. While he left earlier this year, S-Curve’s catalog stayed with BMG, which phased out the S-Curve name.

Greenberg has resurrected S-Curve before. In 2007, he relaunched the label after it had lay dormant for two years while he was president of Columbia Records.
