Streaming platform Ivi and Russian Code Studio have officially unveiled the lead actors for their upcoming period drama, The Story of His Maid. The production is already being hailed as a domestic alternative to international hits like Bridgerton and Downton Abbey.
The family saga features Mikhail Sotnikov (The Poor Cry, the Rich Laugh) and Veronika Zhuravleva (Mister Nail, Your Heart Will Be Broken). This costume melodrama is set against the evocative backdrop of 19th-century Moscow.
The plot centers on Count Nikolai Sheremetyev, a bachelor who is given a one-year ultimatum to marry in order to secure his inheritance. His life takes a turn when he encounters Anna Averina, a noblewoman who offers her services at the Count’s estate in exchange for saving her family from financial ruin.
Sotnikov will portray Roman, the son of the Averin family, while Zhuravleva takes on the role of Yulia, a daughter of the wealthy Spitsyn clan. Their burgeoning relationship develops into a powerful romance, forced to contend with rigid class barriers and the weight of parental expectations.
While the exact premiere date for The Story of His Maid has yet to be announced, the series boasts a script from the creative team behind The Poor Cry, the Rich Laugh. Vlad Nikolaev and Anna Lobanova are set to direct the project.
