Rumor: Microsoft Preparing Major Overhaul for Entire Halo Franchise
Microsoft may be rebooting the entire Halo franchise, according to insider Tom Henderson. There is no official confirmation of these plans yet.
Halo has spent several years trying to reclaim its position as a premier shooter series. After Halo Infinite fell short of expectations, Microsoft renamed 343 Industries to Halo Studios and shifted development to Unreal Engine 5.
Now, insider Tom Henderson claims that the entire Halo series is currently being rebooted. The insider provided no additional details, so it remains unknown whether this involves a complete story reboot, a new retelling of Master Chief’s history, or a change in approach to developing the franchise.
Such a move would allow the creators to start the story over and attract a new audience, although completely abandoning the previous legacy would pose a serious risk. Halo helped shape the success of the original Xbox, which means Halo Studios must preserve the key elements of the series.
For now, this information should be treated as an unconfirmed rumor.
