As daylight gives way to night, Rosé can rest assured knowing that Tuesday’s announcement of the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards nominations brought exhilarating news: the BLACKPINK frontwoman secured eight solo nods, an achievement that rendered her both overjoyed and amazed.
Moments after the nominations were unveiled on August 5, she took to Instagram Stories in a visibly emotional video, sharing, “I just learned that I received eight VMA nominations. I’m utterly stunned—this feels beyond words! Wow!”
She also shared a screenshot of her ballot, overlaid with a hand-drawn “waaaahhh???” to capture her unfiltered excitement.
This year marks Rosé’s debut as a solo VMA nominee. Her collaboration “APT.” with Bruno Mars is in contention for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects, while “Toxic ‘Til the End,” the third single from her solo album Rosie, competes for Best K-Pop.
With eight nominations, Rosé ranks among the most celebrated artists of 2025: Lady Gaga leads with twelve, Bruno Mars follows with eleven, Kendrick Lamar logs ten, Sabrina Carpenter also nets eight, and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd each earn seven.
Turning to her fellow BLACKPINK members, Jennie’s “like JENNIE,” Jisoo’s “earthquake” and Lisa’s collaboration with Doja Cat and RAYE, “Born Again,” vie for Best K-Pop—Jennie and Jisoo’s inaugural solo VMA nods outside the group.
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, September 7, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and MTV, with a simultaneous stream available on Paramount+.
