The creators have not forgotten the most popular duo from the series.
Walking Dead franchise chief Scott M. Gimple stated that a reunion for Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon remains in the plans. In a YouTube interview with content creator Brandon Davis, he admitted he has already mapped out several scenarios and feels certain the meeting will happen eventually.
Gimple added that “it is very complicated for a whole host of reasons that have to do with where production is in 2026. But things change very quickly.” These production hurdles might refer to Norman Reedus and his uncertain future in the role. After filming the fourth season of the spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, the actor posted a message on social media that many fans interpreted as a final goodbye to the character.
Despite these hints from Reedus, AMC has made no official announcement regarding his departure. The zombie universe continues to expand. On July 26, the third season of the spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres, featuring the return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan and Lauren Cohan as Maggie.
