Report: Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie Casts Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf

Nintendo’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is officially scheduled to premiere in cinemas on April 30, 2027. While fans have already been treated to first-look imagery showcasing Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link alongside Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, the overarching plot remains shrouded in secrecy. Moviegoers are still left wondering which specific installment in the franchise serves as the primary inspiration, whether Link will find his voice, or if fan-favorite eccentric characters like Tingle will make an appearance.

However, according to a recent exclusive report from Deadline, a formidable piece of the casting puzzle has fallen into place. Uli Latukefu—recognized for his standout performances in Young Rock portraying a younger Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam, and MaXXXine—has been tapped to bring the iconic antagonist Ganondorf to life.

In a separate breakdown, Deadline revealed additional notable additions to the ensemble cast. The late veteran actor Sam Neill—beloved globally as Dr. Alan Grant from the Jurassic Park series—reportedly completed his scenes prior to his passing last month. Furthermore, Dichen Lachman (known for Severance, Altered Carbon, and Jurassic World: Dominion) and Yvonne Strahovski (recognized for The Handmaid’s Tale, Dexter, and voicing Miranda Lawson in Mass Effect) are attached to the project. Insider sources indicate that Strahovski will portray royalty as a queen, while Lachman is slated to step into the role of the loyal Sheikah warrior, Impa.

Neither Nintendo nor Sony Pictures—both collaborating to produce the feature film—has issued official confirmation regarding these casting choices. Even so, Deadline maintains these insights through trusted production sources, following initial scoops by Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times regarding Latukefu’s involvement.

With the theatrical release roughly seven months away, details regarding the narrative foundation of the film should hopefully surface soon.
