Halsey previews another grinding Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross-produced banger in the latest thrilling trailer for the singer’s upcoming IMAX film If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. Like the previous preview, the third peek is accompanied by a thumping, moody track from the NIN legends, this one featuring the singer wailing, “I sleep with one eye open” on the chorus.
And, as with the previous preview, this one finds new mom Halsey preparing to give birth amid shots of her in a Marie Antoinette-style frilly outfit and towering hair staring longingly in a snow shower, regally strutting through a room of white-robed handmaids, speeding through the woods on horseback and whooping it up in the streets with her girl gang as she makes toasts and tosses bottles on the pavement.
“You made me whatever you made me/ And you make me more and more a villain every day/ But you don’t know you reap, you sow whatever you give to me,” she sings in a menacing whisper over classic Reznor/Ross skittery drums before the song explodes into an industrial throbber and the on-screen scenes get more chaotic and hectic.
Halsey wrote the film experience set to the music of their fourth studio album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which is produced by the Oscar- and Grammy-winning duo; Colin Tilley, who has helmed music videos for Halsey’s Billboard Hot 100-topping single “Without Me” as well as “You Should Be Sad,” directed the IMAX film.
The hourlong film will hit select IMAX theaters in the U.S. on Wednesday (August 25) and internationally on Thursday (August 26), for one night only, ahead of the album’s Aug. 27 release.
