The University of Minnesota will award the late rock star Prince an honorary diploma to acknowledge his affect on music and his position in shaping his hometown of Minneapolis.
University President Eric Kaler and Regent Darrin Rosha will current the varsity’s highest honor, the Doctorate of Humane Letters, to Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, in a ceremony on campus Wednesday night (Sept. 26). The college had been making ready to current it to Prince himself earlier than he died of an unintended painkiller overdose in 2016.
Students from the college’s School of Music will probably be joined by visitor artists Kirk Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, St. Paul Peterson, Cameron Kinghorn and a shock visitor in paying tribute to Prince by performing music related along with his profession.
While the occasion is free, it’s already booked to capability.
