President Trump’s Reaction Upon Hearing about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement

Amid a flood of congratulations on Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s engagement, an unexpected commentator spoke up: President Donald Trump.

At the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, August 26, a reporter invited Trump to share his thoughts on the couple’s news. “I wish them all the best,” he responded. “He’s a phenomenal athlete and a gentleman, and she’s an incredible person. I hope they enjoy every happiness.”

Swift and Kelce broke the news via a joint Instagram announcement, posing in a lush garden to unveil Swift’s sparkling new ring. Their playful caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Today’s gracious remarks stand in stark contrast to Trump’s past barbs at Swift. In 2024, after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, he famously posted on Truth Social: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

More recently, Trump lauded actress Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle campaign—calling her ad “HOTTER than hot” and noting jeans “flying off the shelves”—before dismissing Swift as the “so-called ‘woke’ singer” who, in his view, “was booed at the Super Bowl and is no longer hot.”

Swift has been equally outspoken. In a 2019 Guardian interview, she labeled Trump’s first term “an autocracy.” And in a 2020 post on X, she pledged to “vote him out in November,” accusing him of fanning the flames of white supremacy while feigning moral superiority.
