Pokémon Go is hosting a Sobble Community Day on Saturday, July 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. local time. While many in the U.S. might be planning holiday festivities, trainers will be busy hunting down these elusive water-type lizards instead.
As is standard for Community Day events, Sobble will appear in the wild with significantly boosted spawn rates and a higher probability of being shiny. You may also encounter special event-themed versions of the Pokémon. Below, we’ve broken down everything you need to know to make the most of the event.
How to find a shiny Sobble in Pokémon Go
Historical data indicates that shiny rates during Community Day windows hover around 1 in 24. If you spend the full three-hour event actively catching, you’re highly likely to add a shiny Sobble (or several) to your collection.
If you’re pressed for time or low on supplies, activate an Incense and focus on “shiny checking”—tap each Sobble to see if it’s the variant you want, and flee if it isn’t. Remember that Sobble you’ve already interacted with will turn to face your trainer avatar, which is a great visual cue to help you keep track of which encounters you’ve already dismissed.
What exclusive move does Inteleon learn?
If you evolve Drizzile into Inteleon between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time on the day of the event, it will automatically learn the powerful charged move Hydro Cannon.
If you miss this window, you can typically wait for a year-end Community Day recap event to evolve your Pokémon, or simply use an Elite TM to secure the move immediately.
How does Inteleon perform in the meta?
When it comes to PvE content like raids and gyms, Inteleon is a formidable water-type contender. According to data from Dialgadex, it ranks as the top non-Mega, non-Shadow, and non-Legendary water attacker. If you lack the heavy hitters like Primal Kyogre or Mega Swampert, a high-IV Inteleon equipped with Water Gun and Hydro Cannon is a worthy investment.
While Inteleon is currently the best Gigantamax water-type in the game, keep in mind that the specimens caught during this event cannot Gigantamax. Still, you should hoard Sobble Candy during the event to power up any Gigantamax-capable Inteleon you may obtain later. As for PvP, Inteleon is unfortunately too frail to compete effectively in the current leagues.
Community Day Bonuses and Tips
Take advantage of these active perks during the event:
- Quarter (1/4) hatch distance for eggs placed in Incubators.
- Double Candy for all catches.
- Doubled XL Candy chance for trainers level 31 and above.
- Three-hour duration for Incense and Lure Modules.
- Surprise photobombs when taking snapshots.
- One additional Special Trade and halved Stardust costs for trades.
Make sure to utilize your Incubators and keep an Incense active to maximize your haul. Additionally, if you have a Mega Evolved Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados, Swampert, or Sharpedo (or have activated Primal Reversion on Kyogre), you will receive bonus Candy for every Sobble you catch.
Finally, remember that Lure Modules placed at PokéStops will continue to attract Sobble for four hours after the main event window concludes—keeping the extra shiny odds active until 9 p.m. local time.
