P!nk was named the recipient of the Icon Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards in part because of the breadth of her hits, spanning more than two decades and a variety of pop styles. Those hits were on full display on Sunday night (May 23), when the veteran superstar took the Billboard Music Awards stage for the first time in five years ahead of her Icon Award presentation, with multiple unforgettable smashes at her disposal.
The medley included early career highlights like “Get The Party Started” and “Just Like a Pill”; 2010s radio staples like “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and “Just Give Me a Reason”; and recent additions to P!nk’s catalog like “Cover Me In Sunshine” and “All I Know So Far.” To open the performance, the pop star — arguably best known for her eye-popping, gravity-defying live shows — showcased those aerial theatrics with her daughter, Willow, on their shared song “Cover Me In Sunshine,” and then her vocal power in an evolving stage show. “So What” received the full rock-anthem treatment, “Who Knew” was bestowed with pitch-perfect harmonies, and “Just Give Me a Reason” proved to be a short, but emotional, coda.
P!nk is the 10th artist to receive the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, and at 41 years old, the youngest recipient of the award to date. “As a little girl, I always dreamed about being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world,” she said in a statement upon the announcement of this year’s Icon Award. “Years later, to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award is hard to fathom!”
On Friday (May 21), P!nk released her documentary P!nk: All I Know So Far and its companion project. The latter includes the brand new title track, as well as “Cover Me In Sunshine” with Willow.
