PlayStation Plus subscribers worry about Xbox Game Pass price hike — Sony may follow Microsoft’s lead

Meanwhile, the PlayStation community is on edge: users worry Sony might follow Microsoft’s lead and revise PS Plus pricing upward.

Reddit user nwassassin12 kicked off a thread asking:

“With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate rising to $30 a month, I’m really curious what Sony’s thinking. Will they view this as an opening to raise PS Plus prices? Or will they stay put and try to present themselves as the better value?”

“Sony doesn’t offer day-one releases like Game Pass does, which somewhat justifies Xbox’s price hikes. But if PS Plus starts creeping up in price without adding meaningful benefits, that could seriously backfire on the service.”

Some voices, such as LeSpermReceiver, argue that a price increase is only a matter of time, though it may be less dramatic for Sony:

“Price rises are inevitable, but Game Pass Ultimate now costs $360 a year versus PS Plus Premium at $160. I don’t think Sony can match Microsoft’s pricing because they don’t provide day-one releases, but they will likely raise prices again — perhaps to about $180 within a year.”
