Players Urge CD Projekt RED to Buy Mass Effect and Dragon Age After BioWare Closure
The closure of BioWare has shaken the games industry, though the shock is gradually fading. Players are now asking what will happen to their favorite worlds.
Since the closure, Mass Effect and Dragon Age fans have been urging EA to sell the rights to both series to CD Projekt RED. Former BioWare producer Mark Darrah believes the publisher’s financial problems could make that scenario more realistic.
BioWare’s franchises are at risk along with the studio. An early prototype of Mass Effect 5 was discarded, and the future of Dragon Age and Jade Empire remains uncertain. Players hope the rights will go to the creators of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Some are literally begging CD Projekt RED to buy the well-known series.

According to Darrah, EA no longer has anyone working on these franchises. That could push the company to sell the rights, though it could also shelve them for decades.
After the $55 billion deal to acquire EA, the new owners are looking for ways to cut costs and increase revenue. Selling major game brands to outside companies could be a quick source of cash.
CD Projekt RED has long had the respect of its former BioWare colleagues and knows how to build large-scale RPGs with branching stories. Xbox also comes up in the discussion. Asha Sharma, the division’s new head, is looking to strengthen player trust, and such a deal could help her.
