Perfume Genius has shared a brand new cowl of Bobby Darin’s 1960s tune “Not for Me.” Watch its new music video under; scroll down for Darin’s unique.
Perfume Genius mentioned “Not for Me” in a 2017 interview with Pitchfork. “I was playing this for the band because we were thinking of covering it,” he mentioned on the time. “I feel like I could sing this and not have it be the way he intended. It sounds more like an outsider-y type thing to me. Like when you go to church and you feel like all the things that people are doing there don’t include you, or how all the love songs are not for the kind of love you have. I don’t think that was what he was intending, but it’s what I heard when I first heard that song.”
Perfume Genius’ final studio album was 2017’s No Shape. Read Pitchfork’s interview “Perfume Genius on Crying Along to TLC’s ‘Unpretty’ and Not Singing Like Adele.”
Perfume Genius is acting at Pitchfork and the Art Institute of Chicago’s Midwinter on Sunday, February 17, 2019. Find tickets here.
