Paul Rudd to Star in Eco-Drama from ‘Spotlight’ Director

The ensemble cast has been finalized for the upcoming, as-yet-untitled feature from Academy Award-winning director Tom McCarthy (Spotlight).

Described as a “darkly comedic drama” with an ecological focus, the film will star Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building), John Turturro (Severance), and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

The screenplay is based on Nathaniel Rich’s non-fiction work Losing Earth. The narrative is set in Florida in 1980, where twenty experts gather for a pivotal conference regarding the detrimental effects of carbon dioxide on the global climate. Commissioned by Congress, this group of scientists, activists, and politicians is tasked with drafting a definitive plan for the future—a mission that proves to be far more complicated than anticipated.

While an official release date has not yet been set, Sony Pictures Classics will handle the film’s distribution in the United States.
