Over 50% of game developers in Japan use AI — study
Artificial intelligence is being used more and more in game creation. AI is steadily embedding itself in the video game industry, and recent data bear that out.
According to the latest report from the Computer Entertainment Association, organizer of the Tokyo Game Show, 51% of Japanese studios now employ artificial intelligence in development.
Nikkei notes that AI is most frequently applied to generate graphics and video — including character assets — as well as to develop plots, write dialogue, and assist with coding. At the same time, 32% of companies are incorporating AI into the construction of their own game engines.
The study surveyed both major publishers — including Capcom, Konami, FromSoftware, Square Enix and Sega — and smaller independent teams.
Experts expect this proportion to climb. The reason is simple: AI accelerates production, reduces costs, and simplifies many workflows. However, criticism of these new technologies is also intensifying. Despite the debates, AI’s role in the gaming industry now seems irreversible.
