Original System Shock 2 to be removed from Steam — remaster developers warn of changes to Valve’s store
The plan for distributing the game has been revised.
Earlier this summer, Nightdive Studios released System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. The studio has recently reached out to inform players about the future of the original title.
System Shock 2 (1999) will no longer be sold as a standalone product; it is set to be removed from PC storefronts on October 10, 2025. Existing owners will still be able to re-download and play the game from their libraries, but new buyers will no longer be able to purchase System Shock 2 (1999) as an individual item.
After the standalone edition is delisted, the original game will be made available in the library to both new and current owners of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster — at no extra charge.
