The latter half of 2026 is turning into a powerhouse season for gaming, and Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword is undeniably one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon. This upcoming action-adventure RPG transports players to the historical setting of ancient Kyoto, where they assume the role of a lone samurai. Equipped with a mystical gauntlet, you are tasked with fending off the Genma—a legion of supernatural terrors emerging from the depths of the underworld.

Originally slated for a September 25 launch, Capcom has shifted the release date forward to Friday, September 4. According to an official update on X, the studio is rebranding the initial pre-order bonuses as "early adopter incentives." These will remain available on all platforms through September 24 (ending at 11:59 p.m. local time, or 4:59 p.m. PDT on Steam and Epic Games Store). Standard edition owners will receive the lion dog charm and sealed curse sword cosmetics, while deluxe and premium deluxe editions are bolstered by the addition of a white monkey charm and a white lion sword skin.

If you want to experience the gameplay firsthand, a demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword is currently live on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This vertical slice offers a glimpse into the title's visceral combat mechanics and opening narrative beats. As an added incentive, players who complete the demo will unlock an exclusive kubi akari charm for use in the full game at launch.

By moving up the release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword now arrives just one day after the debut of The Blood of Dawnwalker. While the calendar shift avoids direct competition with major heavyweights like Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant, it also provides fans with a more comfortable window to fully enjoy this experience before the massive arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November.
