Olivia Rodrigo Unveils the Teenage Dream Turned Upside Down in ‘Brutal’ Music Video

God, it’s even more “Brutal” out here than expected in Olivia Rodrigo’s latest music video that she released on Monday (Aug. 23).

The Sour artist animates a teenage dream-turned-nightmare, starting with Rodrigo and her Tiffany Blue ballet troupe’s delicate dance to the violin intro of the song before her “I want it to be, like, messy” line cuts to the 18-year-old superstar crashing down to reality.

With facial animations and stickers resembling the ones she wore on the cover of her Billboard 200-topping album Sour and a multitude of multicolored wigs, Rodrigo represents the sheer fun of being young. But no matter how much she overindulges in it, there are too many stiff reminders of how fleeting the “golden years” are. And don’t even mention parallel parking, since a cacophonous chorus of car honking and yelling — to which Rodrigo responds to by mouthing at the camera, “What the f—?!” — erupts mid-song.

Petra Collins directed the latest visual following her fiery cinematic “Good 4 U” music video. The pop-punk anthem peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
