Olivia Rodrigo soars to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated June 5) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to the opening week of her debut album Sour.
The set arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 295,000 equivalent album units, according to MRC Data, surpassing Taylor Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) for the biggest week of 2021 so far. It also sets a new mark for the largest week, in terms of units, for an act’s debut since the Billboard 200 transitioned from an album-sales only ranking to an equivalent album units-based chart in December 2014.
All 11 songs from Sour concurrently place in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 30, led by three tracks in the top 10: “Good 4 U,” at No. 2 after debuting at No. 1 last week; “Deja Vu,” at No. 3, a new peak; and “Traitor,” a debut at No. 9.
Rodrigo is the third solo woman to rule the Artist 100 in 2021, after Taylor Swift (five weeks this year, among her record-holding 47 total) and Dua Lipa (one week, May 22).
Below Rodrigo on the Artist 100, BTS vaults from No. 14 to No. 2 thanks to its new single “Butter,” which rolls in at No. 1 on the Hot 100. The track is the septet’s fourth Hot 100 No. 1, all earned in the past nine months, as BTS achieves the quickest accumulation of a group’s first four No. 1s since the Jackson 5 in 1970.
BTS has spent 16 total weeks at No. 1 on the Artist 100, the fourth-most after Swift, Drake (32) and The Weeknd (22).
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
