The credits for “Good 4 U,” Olivia Rodrigo’s Billboard Hot 100-topping hit, have been updated to acknowledge an interpolation of Paramore’s 2007 single “Misery Business.”
Sources with knowledge of the situation confirm that Paramore leader Hayley Williams and former guitarist Josh Farro, who co-wrote “Misery Business,” are now credited as writers on “Good 4 U,” alongside Rodrigo and producer-songwriter Daniel Nigro. The listing was changed on the website of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Williams reacted to the update on her Instagram Story on Tuesday (Aug. 24).
The respective teams of Rodrigo and Paramore had been in touch about the song prior to its May release, sources say. The pop-punk-tinged “Good 4 U” became Rodrigo’s second Hot 100 chart-topper upon its release, following “Drivers License,” and comes in at No. 3 on this week’s chart.
In July, Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent were retroactively added as co-writers on “Deja Vu,” another top 10 hit from Rodrigo’s debut album Sour, to acknowledge an interpolation of Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer.” Swift and Antonoff were previously credited as co-writers on Rodrigo’s “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” which interpolates Swift’s “New Year’s Day.”
“Misery Business,” released on Paramore’s breakthrough 2007 album Riot!, peaked at No. 26 on the Hot 100. With the newly added writing credits, Williams and Farro have earned their first Hot 100 chart-toppers as songwriters.
