Olivia Rodrigo bags a chart double in Australia, where Sour (Interscope/Universal) debuts at No. 1 on the national albums chart and “Good 4 U” lifts 2-1 on the singles chart.
“Good 4 U” becomes the 18-year-old California artist’s second leader in the land Down Under, following “Drivers License”.
The ARIA charts are awash with Rodrigo’s music. All three of her official single releases impact the Top 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart as “Déjà Vu” lifts 13-3 and “Drivers License” vaults 19-5, and seven more Sour tracks debut in the Top 50, including “Traitor” at No. 7.
According to ARIA, the last artist to have four or more singles in the Top Ten was Taylor Swift, who racked up five on the survey in August 2020.
BTS enjoy a soft landing on the ARIA Chart with “Butter” (Big Hit Entertainment/Orchard), their multiple record-setting second English-language single. It’s new at No. 6.
TikTok phenom Bella Poarch can now boast a Top 40 hit in Australia, as her debut single “Build a Bitch” starts at No. 36. The Asian-American influencer signed to Warner Records earlier this month.
With Sour bowing at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, Rodrigo becomes the first artist to achieve the double since Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber managed it in April 2021 with Justice and “Peaches.” She’s the first female solo artist to do it since compatriot Taylor Swift, with evermore and “Willow” in December 2020.
Following her performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, on a night when she collected the Icon Award, P!nk enjoys a tenth Top 10 album in Australia with All I Know So Far: Setlist (RCA/Sony).
The companion album to her streaming concert stream All I Know So Far is new at No. 2.
Another act flying after their appearance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards is Twenty One Pilots, who lift off for a third Top 10 on the ARIA Chart with Scaled And Icy (Atlantic/Warner). It’s new at No. 3. Scaled And Icy is the U.S. alternative rock pair’s follow-up to 2018’s chart-topping Trench.
Homegrown rock heroes Powderfinger hung up their instruments a decade ago, but they’ve landed three separate titles in the Top Ten in less than a year. The recording of Powerfinger’s 2020 livestream reunion special One Night Lonely (Universal) opens at No. 4 on the ARIA chart. The album, a fundraiser for music industry charity Support Act, impacts the chart following its release on vinyl, limited to just 2,305 copies.
The Brisbane five-piece returned to the chart last year with the Unreleased (1998 – 2010) collection, and a 20th anniversary reissue of their Odyssey Number 5 (Universal), both hitting No. 2.
Finally, J. Cole’s The Off-Season (Interscope/Universal) dips 3-5 on the latest frame, as ‘90s shoegaze legends My Bloody Valentine make their first ever ARIA Albums Chart Top Ten appearance with their 1991 album Loveless (Domino/EMI). It leaps into the chart at No. 6 following a reissue campaign and its rollout on digital music services for the first time.
