Industry reports have confirmed that Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) and Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island) have officially joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film, What Happens at Night.
The production will be headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. The plot follows a married couple venturing to a desolate, snow-covered European city to finalize an adoption. Their journey takes an unsettling turn when they seek refuge in a decaying hotel populated by a cast of eccentric and enigmatic characters.
The film is an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name, with a screenplay penned by Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal). Principal photography has already commenced in Prague, with a theatrical premiere anticipated for 2027. The project is being developed under the Apple Studios banner.
Mikkelsen’s recent portfolio includes the horror-fantasy Dust Bunny and the dark crime comedy The Last Viking.
