To everyone’s surprise, Nintendo has just rolled out a brand new update for the 3DS. Yes, you read correctly, new firmware is available for a console that is no longer produced. Obviously, we wonder if this update would not be the last of the life cycle of the Nintendo portable console. The new version of the operating system of the machine does not bring anything new (one suspected it, eh) but is satisfied “to improve the system stability and the user experience”. As always, by decoding these words, we understand that the firm has sealed some security breaches in order to make certain homebrew software unusable, and to stem piracy on the machine. Nevertheless, given the increasingly weak place occupied by the 3DS in the financial balance sheet of the Kyoto firm, we imagine that the latter should soon stop paying fees, and stop developing new firmwares.
