Ninja Gaiden 4 Will Prove That Classic Hack-and-Slash Games Never Go Out of Style
“True action games never grow old” — and Ninja Gaiden 4 is positioned to prove exactly that. AUTOMATON spoke with game directors Masakazu Hirayama of Team Ninja and Yuji Nakao of PlatinumGames to learn what the new entry will bring.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is the first major follow-up in 13 years. Slated for release on October 21, 2025, the title aims to bridge classic sensibilities with a new generation of players. Hirayama emphasized his desire for fans to experience the series’ signature “pure action.” For him, the heart of the game is the sensation of being a ninja — the speed, precision, and refined motion.
Nakao believes the project can reignite enthusiasm among long-time action fans. He argues that demand for tightly designed, linear slasher experiences persists, even amid the popularity of hybrid formats.
“There are many legacy action franchises that remain relevant. I’m convinced these games haven’t become outdated, and Ninja Gaiden 4 should resonate with anyone who’s been craving unadulterated combat intensity.”
The developers add that, while they’ve integrated contemporary influences, they’ve preserved the original spirit of the series.
“We worked closely with Team Ninja on every detail and refused to compromise — the core formula remains intact.”
Ninja Gaiden 4 will launch on October 21, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
