Nicki Minaj Passes Janet Jackson With 32nd Top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Nicki Minaj Passes Janet Jackson With 32nd Top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Thanks to three new debuts, Nicki Minaj further extends her record as the woman with the most songs to reach Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with the count now at 114. Among the new entries, she adds a new top 10 as “Seeing Green,” with Drake and Lil Wayne, debuts at No. 8. The song becomes her 32nd to reach the top 10, passing Janet Jackson for the second-most in the chart’s history.

“Green” arrives as the top-selling song of the week, with 33,000 downloads sold in the week ending May 20, according to MRC Data. The figure prompts a No. 1 debut on both the all-genre Digital Song Sales and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. It also opens with 21.5 million U.S. streams in the week ending May 20, which translates into a No. 11 start on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart.

As mentioned above, the “Green” No. 8 kickoff on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs means Minaj adds the 32nd top 10 of her career and passes Janet Jackson’s count of 31 to become the woman with the second-most top 10s since the chart began in 1958. Aretha Franklin, with 52, leads all female acts.

In addition, Lil Wayne earns his landmark 50th top 10 success, while Drake continues to rewrite his own record with an 85th visit to the top tier. Here’s a look at the current leaderboard among all artists:

85, Drake
57, James Brown
52, Aretha Franklin
50, Lil Wayne
48, Stevie Wonder

Notably, “Green” marks the fourth occurrence of Drake, Lil Wayne and Minaj combining for a top 10 hit on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The three previously teamed up exclusively on “Truffle Butter” (No. 4, 2015) and “No Frauds” (No. 8, 2017), while also joining forces with featured artist Chris Brown on “Only” (No. 1 for two weeks, 2014).

Beyond “Seeing Green,” Minaj posts two more hits to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “Fractions” debuts at No. 29 and “Itty Bitty Piggy” begins at No. 41. All three cuts appear on her Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape, which was initially released in 2009 but arrived to streaming services and digital retailers for the first time on May 14. Thanks to its arrival on those platforms, Scotty debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts with 81,000 equivalent album units.
