Nicki Minaj Celebrates ‘Super Bass’ Being Certified Diamond by RIAA After ‘Over a Decade of Support’

It’s been 10 years since the release of “Super Bass,” and Nicki Minaj is adding one more accolade to the 2011 song’s already-long list of accomplishments.

On Wednesday (Nov. 10), the rapper revealed that “Super Bass” has been certified diamond by the RIAA, meaning the song has moved 10 million equivalent units combining actual song sales and streams and has gone 10 times platinum.

On Instagram, Minaj showed off her diamond silver-and-pink plaque, which included a crystal-encrusted border, 10 silver CDs to symbolize the 10 million units, and a single large diamond to decorate the center for the most prominent disc.

“#SuperBassDiamond Thank you for over a decade of support. #Barbz (special thx to Ester Dean, Kane, Juice, Taylor Swift, Sofia Grace & Rosie, Ellen, Young Money/Cash Money & Republic),” the 38-year-old captioned the video, which features “Super Bass” as background music. “This one was released b4 the streaming era, so millions of fans actually purchased the song. I’m so grateful for you guys. Sending love & blessings your way.”

In her list of special thanks, Minaj singled out Swift for rapping a bit of “Super Bass” during a 2011 Nashville radio interview, as well as Sofia Grace and Rosie for covering the song in a viral video and Ellen DeGeneres for inviting the kid YouTube stars on her show. She also thanked her “Super Bass” co-writers Ester Dean and Kane Beatz.

“Super Bass” was released as a single from a deluxe edition of Minaj’s debut studio album, Pink Friday. Though earlier singles “Your Love” and “Moment 4 Life” received significant airplay, “Super Bass” solidified Minaj as a force to be reckoned with in both pop and rap music. The track soared to the No. 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2011 and spent a total of 39 weeks on the chart.
