New Warhammer: The Old World Starter Set Featuring Warriors of Chaos and Grand Cathay Announced

The Warhammer: The Old World development team announced a new starter set featuring Warriors of Chaos and the forces of Grand Cathay. Other upcoming releases include a two-headed Chaos Dragon miniature, an updated rulebook, new Battle March sets, and three card decks.

The Big Summer Warhammer Preview Show 2026 introduced the new base set, which contains 54 miniatures. This box pits Warriors of Chaos against the armies of Grand Cathay.

The set includes a Chaos champion on a demonic mount, a champion with a battle standard, 16 Chaos warriors, and four Chaos knights. The Cathayan side features a gatekeeper on a warhorse, a gatekeeper with a battle standard, 20 Jade Warriors, five Jade Lancers, and a Great Cannon with an ogre crew. The box also contains dice, templates, a gaming mat, and the core rules.

Chaos champions arrive with various weapon and equipment options. Players can field them as Chaos Lords, Exalted Champions, or Aspiring Champions. The new Chaos Knights wear heavy plate armor and carry long lances designed for powerful charges.

The Chaos Dragon is a large center-piece miniature that can also be assembled as a Sorcerer on a Chaos Dragon. Players can purchase the updated Warhammer: The Old World rulebook—the same one included in the starter set—as a standalone item.

The rulebook covers Battle March, a format for fast-paced, smaller battles using armies between 400 and 750 points. A Battle March General’s Handbook will also release, containing example army lists, campaign rules, and six narrative scenarios. It includes additional rules and magic items specifically for the Battle March format.

Two specific Battle March box sets will be available. The Warriors of Chaos box contains a Chaos Sorcerer, five Chaos Marauder Horsemen, 20 Chaos Marauders, eight Chaos Warriors, and four Chaos Knights. The Grand Cathay box includes a Shugengan Lord on a Great Longma, 20 Jade Warriors, five Jade Lancers, six Iron Hail Gunners, and four Crane Gunner teams.

The Arcane Journal: March of Chaos will provide lore, background, and illustrations. It introduces the Army of Infamy, allowing players to combine Warriors of Chaos with Brayherd beastmen. The journal also includes rules for sorcerers and tools to create unique Chaos champions and Brayherd chieftains.

Finally, three card sets will launch alongside these updates: Arcane Magic Tricks, Common Magic Items, and Schools of Magic.
