New Simpsons Movie: Release Date and Latest Details

The Simpsons family is returning to theaters two decades after its first feature-length movie. Disney and 20th Century Studios initially dated the new film for July 2027, but the studio later revised the schedule.

Current release date

The new Simpsons movie is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on September 3, 2027. Disney reaffirmed that date in two official D23 announcements published in July 2026. International release dates may differ and have not yet been detailed.

What the announcement poster revealed

The first image shows Homer’s hand holding a pink doughnut marked with the number two, accompanied by the line “Homer’s coming back for seconds.” It confirms another theatrical film without disclosing the story.

The studio’s September 2025 announcement originally set July 23, 2027. The date moved to September 3 later that year, and Disney’s current 2026 event materials continue to use the revised date.

Production status

Disney has not announced a final title, plot, director, writers or complete voice cast. The project is nevertheless moving through production: Variety reported in April 2026 that it was awarded approximately $21.9 million through California’s expanded film and television tax-credit program.

How it follows the 2007 film

The Simpsons Movie, directed by David Silverman, opened in July 2007 and earned about $536 million worldwide against a reported $75 million budget. The new project will be the family’s second feature-film outing, but no official story connection to the first movie has been described.
