CD Projekt Red has successfully orchestrated a remarkable redemption arc for Cyberpunk 2077, transforming a once-troubled debut into a definitive masterpiece of the decade. The studio is continuing that momentum with a new update specifically tailored for the PlayStation 5 Pro, bringing a suite of technical enhancements to the dystopian RPG this Thursday.
“We aimed to harness the sophisticated capabilities of the PS5 Pro to deliver native 4K visuals, bolstered performance, and advanced ray tracing,” explained Kuba Knapik, Vice President and Global Art Director at CD Projekt Red, in a featured PlayStation Blog post. The intention is to push both the hardware and the game’s engine to their absolute limits, ensuring Night City glows with unprecedented clarity.
According to Knapik, the update fully integrates Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) AI-upscaling. This technology, paired with refined ray-traced shadows and reflections, elevates the game’s lighting to align perfectly with the developers’ original artistic intent. Effectively, the neon-drenched corridors and rain-slicked streets of the future have never looked more immersive.

Players on the PS5 Pro will be able to toggle between three distinct graphical presets based on their priorities:
- Ray Tracing Pro: The ultimate visual showcase, enabling the full spectrum of ray tracing—including ambient occlusion, skylight, and emissive lighting. This mode targets 40 FPS on Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) displays and 30 FPS on standard screens.
- Performance: Prioritizes high-speed responsiveness, reaching up to 90 FPS for users with VRR-compatible hardware.
- Ray Tracing: A balanced “middle ground” that delivers essential ray-traced features while maintaining a smooth 60 FPS.
These enhancements are scheduled to launch on April 8, offering a compelling justification for the premium price point of Sony’s latest hardware. For those yet to own the game, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently accessible through the PlayStation Game Catalog for Plus Extra and Premium members.
