New Around the World: Italy Continues Its Winning Streak, Thanks to ‘Mille’

The June 26-dated Billboard Global 200 is infused by debuts from Polo G (13) and Migos (10). These American rap acts miss out, nearly entirely, however, on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, where they premiere one song apiece.

But elsewhere on the latter ranking, notable international artists get started, spanning Italy, India, Brazil and France.

Following consecutive weeks with debuts by 2021 Eurovision Song Contest champion Måneskin, Italy continues to shine via “Mille,” new at No. 95. The song pairs rappers Fedez and Achille Lauro with legendary Italian pop singer Orietta Berti. The first global chart appearance for all three acts, it opens with 11.5 million streams and 3,900 sold outside the U.S. in its first week (ending June 17), according to MRC Data. In addition to three songs by Måneskin, plus titles by Sangiovanni and Meduza, Italy scores its most representation yet on the Global Excl. U.S. chart.

Indian singers Badshah and Aastha Gill debut at No. 173 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with “Paani Paani,” as the Hindi-language track amassed 19.8 million streams outside the U.S. Like Jubin Nautiyal and Emraan Hashmi’s “Lut Gaye” before it, as detailed here, “Paani Paani” continues the trend of Indian acts leading the way in video streaming. In the tracking week, 19.1 million, or 96%, of the song’s total streams were from video services, the largest share of any song on this week’s chart.

In line with the aforementioned international collaborations, five Brazilian acts enter at No. 182 with “A Cara Do Crime (Nos Incomoda).” Poze, Bielzin, Cabelinho, PL Quest and Neo Beats join forces, earning 11.5 million streams. It’s the second chart entry for Poze, following “Vida Louca” (at No. 158 in its ninth week on the chart), and the first appearance for the other four artists.

Elsewhere, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 40” pairs Argentina’s Bizarrap with Puerto Rico’s Eladio Carrion at No. 81, while France’s Vegedream arrives at No. 175 with 2018’s “Ramenez La Coupe a La Maison.” Plus, the week’s highest debut comes via New Zealand, as Lorde returns at No. 33 with “Solar Power.”
