Netflix to Reveal the Making of ‘Stranger Things’ in New Documentary

Fan speculation regarding a “hidden” ninth chapter of the hit series has taken a surprising turn.

Netflix has officially pulled back the curtain on One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5. This documentary, set to premiere on January 12, offers an intimate look at the creation of the show’s climactic final season.

The project was produced by Angus Wall, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena in collaboration with MakeMake Productions. Director Martina Radwan spent nearly a year embedded on set, capturing the Duffer Brothers and the ensemble cast as they bid farewell to the iconic characters they have inhabited for nearly a decade. The documentary promises viewers exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, poignant interviews, and deep dives into pivotal narrative choices.

For Matt and Ross Duffer, the film serves as a definitive capstone to ten years of creative labor, aimed at restoring a sense of old-school cinematic “wonder.”

“Growing up as aspiring filmmakers, Hollywood felt like an unreachable world. That changed when we discovered the ‘behind-the-scenes’ documentaries for The Lord of the Rings. They revealed the nuts and bolts of how epic cinema is constructed. Seeing Peter Jackson’s total immersion made us realize, ‘That is the dream.’ With the decline of physical media, this format is fading, and we felt a deep need to revive it. One Last Adventure, directed by Martina Radwan, is our attempt to recapture that cinematic magic.”

The creators emphasize that the documentary isn’t just for die-hard fans of the series, but for anyone fascinated by the intricate machinery of massive Hollywood productions.

Following the release of the final season’s last episode on January 1, a fervent fan theory dubbed “Conformity Gate” gained traction online. Proponents suggested the finale might be an illusion or intentionally incomplete, sparking rumors of a hidden episode slated for January 7—aligning with the Orthodox Christmas calendar. However, with the announcement of this documentary, many in the community now believe this behind-the-scenes look will serve as the true final farewell to the franchise.
