Netflix Delays The Witcher Season 5 Release, Reports Say

Audiences waiting to see how Geralt’s adventures end on Netflix will need to exercise patience.

The fifth and final season of The Witcher series will not release until 2027 at the earliest, according to a report by What’s on Netflix citing internal sources. The publication could not ascertain an exact release date, and the streaming service has not yet commented on the delay.

Earlier expectations pointed to a fall 2026 debut for the final episodes, arriving a year after the premiere of the fourth season. Filming concluded back in September 2025, leaving the creators with ample time for post-production.

Those plans evidently shifted relatively recently. In January 2026, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich still maintained that the fifth season would launch before the end of the year, and Netflix listed the series among its upcoming 2026 releases.

Interestingly, CD Projekt Red also plans to release the major expansion Ballads of Past for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2027. A close release window for both projects could help generate simultaneous attention for the game and the show, although no information indicates that Netflix and CD Projekt coordinated their schedules.
