Natanael Cano, Los Dos Carnales & Carin Leon to Talk Globalization of Regional Mexican for Latin Music Week Panel

Corridos tumbados artist Natanael Cano, sibling duo Los Dos Carnales and Mexican singer-songwriter Carin Leon will be part of a conversation on the globalization of regional Mexican music taking place as part of Billboard Latin Music Week, presented by Amazon.

Moderated by Jimmy Humilde, founder and CEO of indie label Rancho Humilde, “Regional No More – Mexican Music Goes Global” is set to feature the chart-topping artists, who represent a new generation of artists in the genre. Cano, Los Dos Carnales and Leon will discuss regional Mexican music’s new sound and new popularity as it sees a significant growth on the charts and has expanded its audience thanks to the new generation that’s led the genre through a renaissance.

All former Billboard Latin Artist on the Rise artists, Cano became the third most-consumed Latin artist of during the first six months of 2020 in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data’s midyear report. Meanwhile, Los Dos Carnales, the duo has collaborated with the likes of Camilo and Gerardo Ortiz, placed all bets on the traditional norteño sound and, in return, scored their first No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart (dated Sept. 5, 2020) with “El Envidioso.” Leon, born and raised in Sonora, Mexico, has taken his core genre, which is regional Mexican, and fused it with different sounds such as country and pop for a more mainstream approach.

Billboard Latin Music Week will kick off with three full days of programming and networking sessions Sept. 20-22 at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach. Other confirmed artists to date include Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, among many others whose conversations and participation will be announced in the coming weeks.

The festivities will continue through the end of the week as Billboard launches its En Vivo concerts series in partnership with Samsung, Amazon Music and Bacardí.

The week also includes the Billboard Latin Music Awards, taking place Sept. 23 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, which will be broadcast by Telemundo and produced by MBS Special Events and will honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, as determined by Billboard’s weekly charts over the last year.
