Mahoney and McNany launched Museum of Love in 2014. In a press launch, the duo stated of the brand new observe:
Obviously a labor of affection. We labored each time we may for the previous three years, 2 weeks on 6 months off, between Pat’s busy tour schedule with LCD and Dennis’ engaged on movie scores and new Jee Day releases.
We had a bunch of unfinished materials from the first file and had been engaged on new materials each time we may. We labored in residence studios; we constructed our our personal recording studio in Dumbo to put in writing and observe new materials; and, once we had been kicked out of that, we snuck into DFA studios because the constructing was about to be gutted and completed an album’s value of latest materials with all of the restricted time and sources we had. This single is the primary product of all our efforts.
Picking up the place the first file left off, this single hints at that new materials: caravan songs, about shifting and shifting on. An train in slapping ourselves within the face, taking inventory of this second we’re in after which out of. To discover the elephantine disappointment that plagues us as we discover ourselves complicit in our personal extinction. Why can we love? Who can we love? For what can we battle? When confronted with displacement how do you retain shifting, and whistling in your approach?
