Monster Hunter: World Deviljho Update: Release Date, Gear and Patch Notes

Capcom added Deviljho to Monster Hunter: World on March 22, 2018 through the first free major title update for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The release followed a January reveal that showed the Brute Wyvern attacking Great Jagras in the Ancient Forest. Capcom identified the console builds as version 2.00 on PlayStation 4 and 2.0.0.0 on Xbox One.

Deviljho gear and weapons

Deviljho retained the appetite and aggressive behavior associated with earlier appearances in the series. The monster could attack other large creatures during a hunt, including Great Jagras. Its Dragon breath also returned. The released version was vulnerable to Dragon and Thunder damage, matching the weaknesses discussed before launch.

Materials from Deviljho could be used to craft the Vangis α and Vangis β armor sets. Capcom also added a Deviljho weapon to each of the game’s 14 weapon categories. Sword and Shield, Hunting Horn, Bow, Insect Glaive and Charge Blade received new Deviljho designs rather than adapted versions of earlier models.

Changes included with the March update

The update changed weapon balance across most of the roster. Great Sword charged attacks gained damage, Long Sword Foresight Slash received wider timing and hit detection, Hunting Horn gained more attack power, and several Gunlance attacks were strengthened. Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun had no balance adjustments in this patch.

Capcom also reduced loading times, added an option to remove a player from an online session, and provided return-to-Gathering-Hub choices after quests. Hunters could change subtitle size, while attacks from allies and bombs no longer interrupted carving after quest completion.

A free one-use Character Edit Voucher became available on March 16, 2018. The voucher allowed changes to a hunter’s gender and appearance. Hunter names, Palico names and Palico appearance remained locked. Additional vouchers were sold later.
