Mod Sun Gets Some Help From Avril Lavigne (and Skater Boys) for Late-Night ‘Flames’ Performance

A full lifetime ago, Avril Lavigne’s career went into orbit with “Sk8ter Boy”.

Skateboards are so 2002. Right now, Lavigne is all about basketball… with skateboards.

On Wednesday night (May 12), the Canadian pop icon teamed up with U.S. pop-punk artist Mod Sun (real name Derek Smith) for a performance of “Flames” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The musicians got to work on a half-court, with skater boys showing their stuff around the key, and Lavigne providing vocals and guitars.

“Flames” is lifted from Mod Sun’s February album release Internet Killed the Rockstar, on which Lavigne is the only featured artist.

“The song changed my life, but further than that it opened this whole space of us working together on music for her,” he recently told Billboard. “We’ve made a ton of songs together now. It’s literally the dream scenario to work with her as a songwriter because I actually get to hear my ideas come out in full form, in the best possible way.”
