Minecraft Officially Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 With Major Visual Upgrades

Minecraft is officially making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 this autumn, providing Mojang’s iconic sandbox phenomenon with a dedicated, custom-built version designed to harness Nintendo’s next-generation hardware alongside a breathtaking visual overhaul.

Mojang announced on Wednesday that the upcoming Switch 2 edition will feature the “Vibrant Visuals” graphical package right out of the box. This upgrade introduces advanced lighting techniques, volumetric fog, refined water reflections, directional illumination, and crisper shadows, modernizing the aesthetic without compromising the timeless, block-based charm fans know and love. According to the developers, this native port has been meticulously optimized specifically for the Switch 2’s architecture.

Players who already own the title on the original Nintendo Switch won’t need to purchase it at full price again. While complete financial details are still forthcoming, Mojang has confirmed an accessible upgrade path for current owners, allowing them to acquire the next-gen version at a discounted rate or unlock it via a qualifying Minecraft subscription.

A landmark year for the franchise

This upcoming console release caps off an extraordinarily eventful period for the franchise, which has continued to expand via a consistent stream of substantive updates and fresh spin-offs. Vibrant Visuals initially premiered alongside the Chase the Skies update, representing one of the most profound technical milestones in the game’s history.
