Mike Flanagan Abandons “Clayface” Film
Mike Flanagan has revealed that he has virtually no connection to the final iteration of the “Clayface” film. In a conversation with CBM, the filmmaker explained that his involvement concluded the moment he submitted his initial script; he has not even viewed the completed production.
According to Flanagan, once he handed off his draft to the studio, he stepped away from the project entirely. Subsequently, Warner Bros. commissioned Hossein Amini to perform a comprehensive page-one rewrite. Consequently, the project shifted from minor revisions to an entirely new creative direction.
Despite this, Flanagan retains a credit on the film, appearing as both the creator of the story and a co-writer alongside Amini. The director had originally intended to helm “Clayface” himself, with a vision deeply inspired by the two-part “Feat of Clay” arc from the classic “Batman: The Animated Series.”
Warner Bros. appears to be untroubled by these creative departures. The theatrical release of “Clayface” is currently scheduled for October 23, 2026.
