Microsoft Launches XP Division to Expand Gaming Franchises Beyond Video Games
Kayleen Walters, who previously led Mojang, has been appointed as the head of the division.
Microsoft has announced the creation of a new Xbox division called XP, which will develop gaming franchises outside of direct video games. Its scope will encompass films and television series, consumer products, live events, immersive entertainment, and partnerships with content creators and brands.
According to Xbox, individual company teams had already worked in these areas, but this activity will now be united under a single division.

According to an official Xbox press release, XP will focus on four main areas:
- Xbox Pictures — bringing Xbox worlds and characters to film, television, and other forms of linear storytelling
- Xbox Products — creating merchandise tied to popular franchises and tailored for fans
- Xbox Places — hosting live events, creating immersive entertainment, attractions, broadcasts, and themed spaces
- Xbox Partnerships — collaborating with creators, brands, and communities to build new projects, sponsorship programs, and other partnerships
