Microsoft Defends Xbox Game Pass Price Hike, Promises Plenty of Games
Microsoft has responded to reactions about recent price adjustments and changes to Xbox Game Pass. Dustin Blackwell, who leads communications for games and platforms at Microsoft, said in an interview that the intention was to deliver more choice and greater value for different types of players.
He pointed out that each subscription tier now includes a larger selection of games — including more titles for PC — and that cloud gaming will be available to a wider audience.
Blackwell admitted that no one welcomes price increases, but he argued the company believes the added features and benefits justify the change. He added that Microsoft sought to strike a balance in what each plan offers for casual gamers as well as for more dedicated players.
“We understand price changes can be frustrating, and we’re working to offset that by packing our subscriptions with more value. This isn’t done lightly — we listen to player and community feedback to deliver what they actually need.”
Blackwell stressed that Xbox Game Pass now delivers expanded capabilities.
“We’re providing access to more than 75 new games per year. That’s roughly 50% more than last year.”
He also highlighted the importance of a broader catalog, an increase in cloud-enabled titles, and the inclusion of services like Ubisoft+ Classics and Fortnite Crew in the highest tier.
