Metaphor: ReFantazio Wins Top Prize at the 2025 Japan Game Awards
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was honored with the Breakthrough Award for its innovative concept.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was named Game of the Year at the Japan Game Awards 2025 ceremony held on Tuesday. The event — organized annually by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association of Japan (CESA) — is partly decided by public voting.
The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, recognizing contributions to the growth of Japan’s games industry, was presented to the Nintendo Switch 2. This accolade is given to individuals or organizations that have made a substantial impact on the sector’s development.
Eleven titles in total received the Award for Excellence for outstanding quality. Among them were Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Elden Ring Nightreign, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Yakuza — Pirates in Hawaii.
