Metallica Reveal Intimate NYC Concert, Dispel Las Vegas Sphere Rumors

Metallica, unveiling one of their most exclusive performances to date, have responded to swirling rumors that their celebrated stage production is bound for the Las Vegas Sphere.

As the titans of metal conclude the final leg of their 2025 tour—spanning Australia, New Zealand, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates—they have also announced a singular, intimate show in New York later this month.

Slated for August 28 at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, Long Island, the 250-capacity venue will host what ranks among the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers’ most personal concerts.

This specially curated evening, presented by SiriusXM in celebration of the imminent launch of the Maximum Metallica channel, offers tickets exclusively through contests hosted by Metallica and SiriusXM.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, drummer Lars Ulrich spoke with Howard Stern on August 6, addressing not only the upcoming Amagansett gig but also the conjecture surrounding a potential Sphere residency.

Reports from Vital Vegas suggest unnamed insiders have earmarked fall 2026 for Metallica to take up residency at the Sphere. Ulrich, however, demurred, emphasizing there is “nothing to confirm.”

“I won’t dismiss the idea—we’re all huge admirers of that venue,” Ulrich explained. “Our management and production teams have toured the facility. It’s under consideration, but nothing has been finalized or green-lit. We’re exploring it for after our 2026 tour concludes.”

The Sphere at the Venetian Resort, which opened in September 2023 with U2’s 40-date residency, has since hosted Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles, and Kenny Chesney. The Zac Brown Band is next after the Backstreet Boys wrap their current run.

Reflecting on his experience, Ulrich told Stern, “I was there opening night for U2—I wanted to witness it firsthand rather than through videos. The spectacle was astonishing and signaled a new era in live performance.”

“To be candid, I’d love to bring our show there. It’s not locked in yet, but if you ask me, I would absolutely relish the opportunity,” he enthused.

Following their New York appearance, Metallica will conclude their 2025 itinerary in Australia and New Zealand this November, with subsequent dates in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Their M72 World Tour is set to culminate in July 2026 with performances across Europe and the U.K.
