McDonald's wanted to launch a very ugly PS5 controller, but Sony put its direct veto

This is a story that deserves to be told and that will undoubtedly go down in the annals. In Australia, McDonal’s is celebrating its 50th anniversary and to celebrate this event as it should be, the famous burger brand has launched a bunch of promotional offers to advertise itself. There were the Big Macs at 50 cents, but more unexpectedly, PS5 controllers pimped in the colors of the famous brand to the large M. The idea was to organize a contest that would have allowed the winners to leave with 50 controllers in the design certainly doubtful, but which would have been among the most collectors objects of the PS5. To hope to leave with one of these McDonald’s DualSense, it was enough to follow certain streamers at key moments of their stream. Sadly, those 50 PS5 controllers will never see the light of day, as Sony has stepped in in person to clear things up and put McDonald’s back to order. Since the authorization was never given by the Japanese manufacturer, the fast-food brand was forced to cancel the creation of these very colorful DualSense. A press release was published in the wake:

Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional material related to the proposed Stream Week event and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. McDonald’s streaming week has been postponed and Sony PlayStation controllers will no longer be included in giveaways.

We do not know if the design or simply the lack of authorization that pushed Sony to put its veto, still it is that these controllers, as ugly as they are, would have become collector’s items that many would have snatched away. at a high price on resale sites such as eBay. And you, what do you think of this design?
