Along with the release of “Butterflies,” a new team-up with singer-songwriter Ali Gatie, pop artist Max has announced a new label deal with Warner Records on Friday (June 25), Billboard can exclusively reveal.
“Warner Records has always been a record label I’ve admired immensely, and the whole team just seemed to understand my vision and music right away, which was beautiful,” says Max Schneider, who’s recorded independently as Max for over a decade. “I’m so incredibly honored to partner with them and be a part of their incredible roster.”
Max is best known for his tender pop hit “Lights Down Low” featuring gnash, which peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2016. The New York native also released collaborations with artists like Suga of BTS, Hayley Kiyoko, Noah Cyrus and Chromeo, many of which appeared on Max’s 2020 project, Colour Vision.
“Butterflies” with Gatie, which is Max’s first release since Colour Vision, also serves as a direct follow-up to his biggest hit to date. “‘Butterflies’ is the sequel to my song ‘Lights Down Low,’” says Max, “which I wrote for my wife, Emily, and proposed to her with. I wrote ‘Butterflies’ to renew my vows with Emily and find that same energy of love I put into ‘Lights Down Low.’ A few weeks later, we found out Emily was pregnant, and our baby girl, Edie, was born in December.”
As for the addition of Gatie, who released his project The Idea of Her through Warner in March, Max says, “Ali and I became friends online, and I actually sent him the song last summer to see if he wanted to add his love story, and he ended up really loving the song and gracing me with his brilliant vocals and story.”
