Marvel Rivals Officially Confirms Beloved X-Man Jubilee
Fan-favorite X-Men staple Jubilee is officially joining the ever-expanding roster of Marvel Rivals, developer NetEase Games revealed during a Tuesday livestream. Players can look forward to her debut when season 9 launches on July 10.
<p>NetEase showcased the newest hero update during a broadcast that also outlined the game’s upcoming seasonal roadmap. Interestingly, Jubilee will step into the role of a Strategist (the game’s support archetype), a classification that might catch fans of her explosive pyrotechnics off guard. Given her ability to conjure blinding, bomb-like fireworks, one might assume she would fit the Duelist profile. However, NetEase has a history of subverting expectations with character roles—much like they did with Gambit, who also serves as a Strategist despite his aggressive card-slinging kit.</p>

<p>Regarding her playstyle, the developers explain that Jubilee aims to be a beacon of light on the battlefield:</p>

When blended with her vampiric traits, every firework she detonates becomes a dazzling celebration of combat prowess.</p>

<p>Her character model pays homage to her classic comic aesthetic—complete with the yellow trench coat, matching gloves, and signature pink glasses. Notably, the "A" on her belt hints at her current alliance, but the most telling detail lies in her eyes. Their distinct yellowish glow matches the vampiric designs of Blade and Dracula, confirming that <em>Marvel Rivals</em> is leaning into Jubilee's undead status. She even gains unique synergy with fellow supernatural heroes via her Team-Up abilities: "Hellfire Sparks" (with The Hood) and "Vampiric Kin" (with Blade).</p>
<p>While some players might be surprised, this isn't the first time Jubilee has embraced the shadows. Her vampiric history dates back to the 2010 "Curse of the Mutants" arc, where she was bitten by Xarus, Dracula’s son. She eventually shed this burden in 2019 thanks to a fragment of the Phoenix Force provided by Quentin Quire. By incorporating this unusual chapter of her history, <em>Marvel Rivals</em> offers a charming nod to the more eccentric corners of Marvel lore.</p>

<p>The game also provides context for her narrative arc, explaining that the "Timestream Entanglement" has trapped her son, Shogo, in his dragon form. To save him, Jubilee struck a desperate bargain with Apocalypse in Thebes, resulting in her becoming his Horseman of Famine. Both characters have regained massive popularity recently, thanks to their standout performances in <em>X-Men '97</em> season 2.</p>
<p>Season 9 will also introduce The Hood as an additional playable character. The season draws heavy inspiration from the classic "Age of Apocalypse" storyline and will debut a stunning new Egyptian-themed map. Additionally, Jubilee will receive a "Midnight Mutant" cosmetic, giving her a stylish, vampire-inspired wardrobe update.</p>
